Like many believers across the nation I have been praying for God's purposes to be accomplished in the elections that are to take place this Tuesday. And each time I pray, the Lord reminds me of our most recent gathering last August in Quebec City.
In this gathering, the Lord moved in a way I have not experienced before. The discerning team would gather to pray together before each session, yet many times we could not figure out what direction the meeting was to go. So we simply chose to unite our hearts in faith and enter into the worship trusting the Lord would direct us as He wanted.
We were not disappointed. As soon as we entered into worship we were corporately enveloped in the most amazing presence of God. It was like instantly entering into zero-gravity in space - there was no resistance and everything became weightless and easy! We were like little kids, reveling in the freedom and worshiping for hours. Then afterwards, the Holy Spirit led us in what seemed effortless times of sharing, prayer, declaration and prophetic acts.
I came away from the gathering deeply impacted. I saw how even in our confusion, as long as we positioned ourselves in faith, the Lord did exactly what He wanted. And I realized we have entered into a new season of the sovereignty of God.
The Days in Which We Live
When I consider the current elections and more broadly the wider economic crisis that is enveloping the Western World, immediately the Lord brings me back to the gathering. Despite the confusion we see around us I believe we are on the verge of seeing a display of the mighty sovereign power of God in our nation in a way that we have not experienced before. I sense God is even allowing these because He wants to leave no doubt when He moves that it is His sovereign hand and not the wisdom of the best-laid human plans that will ultimately bring His will and His kingdom to this earth.
So what is the position the Lord wants us to take, as His church, in these tumultuous times?
For many months the Lord has been highlighting one verse to me: Jeremiah 15:19.
If you take out the precious from the vile, You shall be as My mouth.
I believe the current financial upheavals we are experiencing are just the beginning of sorrows, and as we enter 2009 there will be a great acceleration in the shakings that are coming as part of God's end-time purposes for the nations and preparation of His Bride. And as things on this earth become more confused and more chaotic, God intends the Church to carry His governmental authority and become His mouthpiece in the earth in a way we have never seen before.
But for this to happen there must another level of consecration and sanctification, of separating the precious from the vile. What do I mean by that?
Speaking Nothing but the Truth - So Help Us God!
When the 12 spies went in to survey the Promised Land they came back with a report: there were amazing spoils in the land... but there were also great giants that were beyond their natural means to defeat. While this report was factually true, it was not The Truth; The Truth was what the Lord had spoken to them. They were to go in and possess because the Lord Himself would give them the land as their inheritance. Their only responsibility was to hear what God had said, mix it with faith and step out in obedience. It was God's responsibility to deal with the giants in order to make His promises come to pass.
And so it is for us today. We too have received a command from the Lord to go up and possess the spiritual inheritance in our nation. And we cannot allow ourselves to be deterred by the news we see on TV or read in the papers that would seem to say the giants in the land are too big to be defeated. Our declaration in this season must be of faith, like that of Caleb's:
If the LORD is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us. Only do not rebel against the LORD. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will swallow them up. Their protection is gone, but the LORD is with us. Do not be afraid of them." Numbers 14:8-9
The time has come to possess and nothing must distract us from what the Lord has spoken to us. We no longer have the luxury of careless words or careless thoughts. If we want to be ambassadors of the Lord and carry His authority, we cannot speak according to what we see in the natural, but only according to what the Spirit is revealing to our spirits.
Even if there are giants, we need not be afraid because their protection is gone! We must stand and declare His truth, refuse to entertain the vile lies of unbelief that come from our enemy and watch and see the Lord perform great miracles among us by the power of His Mighty Hand!
A Declaration on Thanksgiving
Today all across Canada is a day devoted to giving thanks. So let us enter into this new season by setting our hearts in unity and making this declaration of thanksgiving and faith:
Lord You taught us to pray Thy kingdom come and Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Today we stand together as the body of Christ in Canada and we declare by faith that Your kingdom is come and Your will is being done now in the nation of Canada. No matter what we may see in the natural, we choose to fix our eyes on You alone. No matter what negative reports may come, we choose to fix our ears on Your words alone. We want to do only that which we see You doing and speak only that which we hear You speaking so that we might be as Your mouth to our nation.
Thank you God for Your great mercy and kindness to our nation. We are so grateful God for Your favour and Your blessings on Canada. We declare that You are the Victorious King over our nation, that this is Your Dominion and that all your exceeding great and precious promises for Canada will be fulfilled as You desire.
In the mighty name of Jesus, Ruler Supreme, we pray, Amen!
